With the awarded funding from the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission, North Riverside Parks & Recreation is able to ensure that its summer camps and recreational programming remain inclusive and accessible to all participants through our partnership with the West Suburban Special Recreation Association (WSSRA).

This partnership provides individualized, one-on-one support for participants who are neurodivergent or have disabilities that require additional assistance to successfully participate in our programs. Without this support, some campers would face significant barriers to attending and fully participating in summer camp.



Participation in the WSSRA partnership requires a financial contribution from North Riverside, in addition to payments for the support services utilized. The funding provided by the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission helps offset these costs, allowing North Riverside to continue providing inclusive recreational opportunities and ensuring that participants receive the individualized support they need to have a safe, meaningful, and successful camp experience.

We provide high-quality, accessible, and adaptive recreation services for persons with disabilities. The Village of North Riverside ensures that its residents with disabilities have recreation opportunities equivalent in quality and quantity to those of their neighbors without disabilities. The overall goals are to serve consumers with life-enhancing social and developmental recreation program opportunities, distinctive customer service, reliable transportation, and professional, caring, and knowledgeable staff in a safe and fun environment.
