The Special Recreation programs provide the leisure and social needs of individuals with developmental disabilities. Our programs focus on promoting socialization, community integration, independence, and providing life-enriching activities.

Support from the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission helps Veterans Park District expand recreational opportunities and services for individuals with disabilities through our partnership with the West Suburban Special Recreation Association (WSSRA).

Children and adults with physical, developmental, intellectual, or other disabilities who reside within the Veterans Park District boundaries have access to services through WSSRA. Participants can receive inclusion support and reasonable accommodations when taking part in Veterans Park District programs based on individual needs. Through WSSRA, eligible residents also have access to a wide variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including social programs, sports and fitness, arts and crafts, special events, summer camps, trips, Special Olympics, and other activities designed to encourage recreation, independence, social interaction, and community involvement.

Our goal is to provide individuals of all abilities with opportunities to participate, have fun, build friendships, and enjoy meaningful recreational experiences within their community.
