NAMI Metro Suburban is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals, families, and communities affected by mental illness in West Suburban Cook County through education, support, and advocacy. We believe that caring for mental health strengthens communities, shared experience empowers individuals, and access to quality care is a basic human right. Through our programs, people can learn about mental health, connect with peers who share lived experience, strengthen recovery and employment skills, and receive immediate support during a crisis. Our Living Rooms in La Grange, Summit, and Oak Park provide free, trauma-informed crisis support as an alternative to the emergency room. The La Grange and Summit locations are open 24/7/365, with bilingual services available in English and Spanish at Summit, and our Oak Park location is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. NAMI Metro Suburban has long served as a trusted community mental health resource, providing free services for people living with mental health conditions, their families, and community members—particularly youth and individuals from historically underserved populations whose access to support is often limited.

The Proviso Township Mental Health Commission collaborates with NAMI Metro Suburban to support the following programs serving Proviso Township residents:

Drop-In Center: With support from the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission, the Drop-In Center in Oak Park provides adults living with mental health conditions a safe, stigma-free community offering peer support, recovery and life-skills development, wellness activities, and employment support. Drop-In Center-On-The-Go expands access by bringing peer support and information about available services to community spaces, including public libraries, throughout Proviso Township. The Drop-In Center is open weekdays 1-7 pm and weekends 2- 6 pm, every day of the year.

Oak Park Living Room: Located next to the Drop-In Center, the Oak Park Living Room offers free, trauma-informed support for adults experiencing mental health distress as an alternative to the emergency room. Guests can also connect easily with the Drop-In Center for ongoing peer support, groups, and recovery-focused programming.

Community Education: NAMI Metro Suburban partners with middle and high schools throughout Proviso Township to provide a diverse offering of mental health education and suicide prevention programming. During the 2025–2026 school year, NAMI Metro Suburban worked with students at Proviso East High School, Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy, Roosevelt Middle School in Bellwood, and Walther Christian Academy, as well as parents at Roosevelt Middle School. Presentations help students recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness, manage stress, reduce stigma, and understand when and where to seek support.
