The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Metro Suburban offers free education programs for adults living with mental illness and the families, partners and significant others of adults living with mental illness. NAMI also offers free, drop-in support groups in Spanish for the families and friends of persons living with mental illness. For more information go to namimetsub.org.
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program helps low-income families pay their heating bills. LIHEAP is a grant that offers assistance in the form of a cash grant, sent directly to the utility company, or a crisis grant for households in immediate danger of being without heat. This is a multiservice agency providing information and referral services whether by phone or in person. A wide variety of services are available to seniors and handicapped individuals. Proviso Township offers FREE rides to senior citizens. A trained staff drives residents who are otherwise unable to get to and from doctors and hospitals. We will also take you to the post office, grocery store or to do your banking.
